The historic Talyllyn Railway was opened in 1865 and runs from Tywyn on the Mid Wales Coast inland to Nant Gwernol. The return trip takes just over two hours, but you can easily spend the day here exploring the many scenic walks.
Snowdon is one of Wales' icons and there are several footpaths leading to the summit of this awesome mountain. An exhilarating alternative would be to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway which offers Britain's most spectacular rail journey on the country's only public rack and pinion railway. There are frequent departures to the summit of Snowdon by a variety of vintage steam and modern diesel trains which make the four-mile trip to the top, where there is a bar, buffet and gift shops.
Due to the redevelopment of the Summit building, all trains will terminate at Clogwyn or Rocky Valley in 2007, subject to passenger demand and weather conditions on the day of travel. For up to date information please visit our website www.snowdonrailway.co.uk.
Llanberis Lake Railway offers a 1 hour trip on an historic narrow gauge train from the centre of Llanberis via Gilfach Ddu car park along the shore of Llyn Padarn, with great views of the mountains.
Bala Lake Railway offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid), through the beautiful and natural Snowdonia National Park.
Take a trip back in time on the Welsh Highland Railway in Porthmadog, North Wales. Our narrow gauge line includes a visit to the sheds with chance to climb on the engines and see how the railway works for yourself. Ideal for families with young children...... and for kids up to the age of 90!
